How it all began..
At the time Maggie was working for Family TIES of MA and received constant phone calls from families living with special needs to find support for their other children. Knowing there was nothing in this region, she reached out to her contacts in the community and immediately found two other mom's knowing there was a high need...
Laura, Linda and Maggie are the masterminds behind Sensational Sibs. We understand what it's like to have a child with different abilities and to watch our other children struggle over the years. It simply broke our hearts. We understand the importance why siblings need to lead a life full of laughter, fun and a sense of being understood. A place that isn't stressful, a place these rockstar sibs can be themselves. A place they won't be judged; or misunderstood anymore or feel different. A place to find friends that know what it's like to have a sib of other abilities. So we decided we would start a dynamic group, SENSATIONAL SIBS OF WESTERN MA was born! Our first session was held in Spring of 2014. With 16 kids/teens joining we had successfully had a group of Sensational Sibs and mentors! Much to our surprise we were blown away on the response! We were nervous and ecstatic all at the same time!
Our Spring session was a hit! First low ropes; allowing these sibs to get to know each other and creating a Sibs Tree full of their feelings, thoughts and emotions shared amungst each other. Throughout the sessions we watched our sibs grow and the tree too! Our Second Session; was a fun scavenger hunt, racing as a team all together strapped on a board and tried to solve mysterious puzzles. Our Third was full of giggles, teamwork and challenges as the sibs were broken off into teams all the while doing minute to win it games. Our last was an opportunity for these sibs to really see how they trusted one another on high ropes. And they all did it, even when scared! We couldn't be more proud of these sibs. These sibs are truly wonderful and SUPER Sensational!!! Simply they just Rock!
In 2017 we have made some changes. Maggie and Laura have collaborated with AACVoices.org an organization that is solely about being heard as a whole family. We also have redeveloped what the group will have to offer to each of our siblings. And have built a newer strong relation with our community.
